Kundalini Yoga, the Yoga of Awareness, was brought to the West by Yogi Bhajan in 1968. You gain inner vitality to compensate for the adverse effects of stress so you can excel in life. Kundalini yoga classes are a dynamic blend of postures, pranayama, mantra, music and meditation, which teaches you the art of relaxation, self-healing and elevation. Balancing body and mind enables you to experience the clarity and beauty of your soul. No previous experience in yoga is required for you to achieve results with your very first class.

Drops of Nectar: Tasting the Joy of Advanced Asanas
Like a chambered nautilus that organically grows into a greater and greater capacity for freedom, this series will provide a framework in which everyone can experience the opening and energy released through a powerful and consistent process. We will approach advanced postures with respect, intelligence and receptivity. The group will embark on a transformative journey together while individually exploring the vast realm of possibilities that lie within. We will explore a wide range of standing pose flows, full back bending, arm balances, deep twists and forward folds to create a harmonious & balanced practice. Emphasis will be placed on longer-held inversions (supported and free-standing) to deepen ones awareness and understanding as you invert the body and mind. The use of bhandas, drishti and breath are incorporated to experience the fluidity underlying all movement. Together, we will redefine what it truly means to “advance” ones practice by exploring all aspects of Hatha (physical) yoga. Time will be allotted at the end of each class for pranayama, seated meditation and discussion.

This series is suitable for intermediate to advanced students & teachers looking to patiently expand their yoga practice with commitment and dedication. Students must have at least one year of consistent practice with a strong foundation and knowledge of sun salutations and the above mentioned asanas. Please direct all inquiries to Tia Platte at info@yogarichmond.com.

In this six-week series, students will learn about the fundamentals of a vinyasa-style class and thoroughly examine its elements including the synchronization of breath and movement, sun salutations, ujjayi pranayama (victorious breath), drishti (gazing point), bandhas (energy locks), and inversion preparations. The series will help students gain the knowledge and self-assurance they need in order to “find their flow” and transition safely into power vinyasa and vinyasa flow classes. This series is open to all levels. Both experienced vinyasa practitioners and beginning yoga students will benefit from this opportunity to learn the basic elements of a vinyasa-style practice.

Whether you are seeking respite from a busy life or recovering from illness or injury, restorative yoga offers you the opportunity to relax your body and mind, alleviate stress, and restore your health and inner harmony. Restorative yoga is a gentle, calming, therapeutic style that uses props (blankets, bolsters & chairs) to support the body, deepening the benefits of the poses. Judith Hanson Lasater, author of Relax and Renew, refers to restorative yoga poses as “…active relaxation. By supporting the body with props, we alternately stimulate and relax the body to move toward balance.” The poses create specific physiological responses which are beneficial to health and help reduce the effects of stress-related diseases. Give yourself the gift of relaxation.
